The University of New England’s Department of Marine Sciences received national media attention for a collaborative study on the mortality rates of fish that are caught and released.

Graduate student Connor Capizzano, M.S. ’15, conducted research on cod mortality rates in the Gulf of Maine. The research was done as part of a larger survey with New England Aquarium, the University of Massachusetts and Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries.

Capizzano conducted his research with James Sulikowski, Ph.D., professor of Marine Science. Sulikowski was interviewed on the subject by Portland news station WMTW.
