Marilyn Gugliucci serves as delegate and presents at Eighth Congress of International Association for Geriatrics/Gerontology

Marilyn R. Gugliucci, Ph.D., professor and director of Geriatrics Education and Research in the College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM), recently served as a delegate for the Eighth Congress of the International Association for Geriatrics/Gerontology, which was held in Dublin, Ireland.

The conference theme was "Unlocking the Demographic Dividend" and focused on worldwide aging issues, including challenging the current disease/decline model of aging and the World Health Organization’s definition of "health."

Gugliucci gave two presentations—a poster presentation, titled "Balancing Act: an Upright Approach to Falls Prevention," and an oral presentation on "Learning by Living: Life Altering Medical Education Research."

She reported that during the oral presentation, the substantial group of delegates claimed to know of no other project internationally like COM’s Learning by Living Nursing Home Immersion Project.

Additionally, Gugliucci was invited to be a mentor in a two-hour session organized by doctoral and post-doctoral students at the conference. The mentees she worked with reside in Brazil, France, Africa, England, Australia, Sweden, Amsterdam, Brussels and the U.S.
