OT students welcome Casco Bay High School students for career day

On October 7, 2015 Occupational Therapy (OT) students welcomed Casco Bay High School students to the University of New England to introduce them to the field of occupational therapy and give them insight into the role of occupational therapists in health and community care.

MSOT 2017 students Kelsey Crowell and Lindsey Garehan led the event. During the interactive session, OT students set up an adaptive equipment relay that was used to educate the high school students on some of the equipment used by occupational therapists. The students split up into two teams and were required to use a gait belt, a wheel chair and a grabber during the obstacle. This allowed the students to enjoy a "hands-on" experience of the type of work occupational therapists do and how they help clients adapt every day occupations based on their individual needs.

After the session Casco Bay students had the opportunity to have lunch with OT students and students from various other graduate programs at UNE, giving them the chance to further interact and ask questions.
