Anne-Marie Davee offers advice on smart beverage choices

Anne-Marie Davee

On March 9, 2016, the School of Community and Population Health's Anne-Marie Davee, M.S., R.D., L.D., presented "Bottoms Up with Beverage Choices" the sixth installment of SCPH's "Nutrition Bytes" Lunch 'n' Learn series. Davee, who is also a registered dietitian and competitive athlete, discussed how much water the body needs daily, how to maintain fluid balance and how to make the best beverage choices for overall health and performance. According to Davee:

•60-70% of the human body is water

•The best choice for proper hydration is cool, plain water

•As a guideline, it is recommended that women consume 8-9 cups of water per day and men 10-12 cups of water per day

•Key considerations when making healthful beverage choices include caloric content, added sugars or sweeteners, caffeine content and alcohol percentage

The next installment of the "Nutrition Bytes" series will take place on Thursday, April 14, 2016, in which Leslie Ouellette, M.S., R.D., L.D., Obesity Prevention Coordinator for SNAP-Ed, will explore "Healthy Alternatives for Dessert." More information on that event can be found here. The "Nutrition Bytes" series is co-sponsored by Finley Recreation Center's Department of Health and Wellness Education.
