UNE hosts festival for Boys and Girls Club

UNE students work with the Boys and Girls Club

University of New England students from the Westbrook College of Health Professions welcomed 50 students from the Boys and Girls Club of Portland to a festival in the Harold Alfond Forum.

WCHP students led stations for health education about healthy food choices, safe backpack fitting, and proper dental hygiene techniques, as well as activities in sports skills, arts and crafts, and team building. The event was held in partnership with Snap-Ed, which donated lunch boxes and provided healthy eating education, and with Sodexo, which donated healthy dinners for the children.

The Boys and Girls Club students were enthralled to engage in meaningful activities with college students and spend time on the Biddeford campus. Each of them left with a properly fitted backpack donated by the UNE students and faculty, as well as the awareness of prevention of common backpack injuries.
