UNE math professor interviewed about odds in historic Powerball drawing
Craig Tennenhouse writes a computation to illustrate probability
Craig Tennenhouse, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, was interviewed by WCSH 6 about the odds of winning a record $1.6 billion Powerball jackpot.
Tennenhouse used his mathematical expertise to explain the odds of winning, and how much those odds increase when people buy multiple tickets. "Your probability of winning with 10 tickets over one ticket is 10 times, and the probability for someone who buys 100 tickets is 10 times more than that so it really does go up, but it's still such a miniscule probability the chances that it's going to help you that much are very small."
