Joshua Allen (COM, ’19) and Marilyn Gugliucci, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Geriatric Medicine in the University of New England’s College of Osteopathic Medicine were interviewed by Canadian radio host Barry Morgan during an episode of “The Barry Morgan Show” on CJAD 800 in Montreal.

Allen participated in Gugliucci’s Learning by Living nuring home immersion project, in which he stayed at St. Andre Health Care in Biddeford for 10 days, living life as an elder nursing home resident with a stroke diagnosis. “While I was there I bonded with the residents on my floor and on all of the floors, and at the end it was really hard to say goodbye because I had made so many friendships there,” Allen said on the show.

When speaking about the project Gugliucci said, “The part that is amazing to me, for every student that goes into a home, and I’ve been doing this for ten years now, they don’t want to leave at the end. They connect heart to heart with the people that they are living with.”
