Health and wellness exhibits on display at the UNE College of Pharmacy

Native Voices

Two exhibits depicting healing and wellness are on display at the UNE College of Pharmacy through February 12. A reception for the public will be held February 7.

Located on the second floor of the College of Pharmacy, Native Voices was created in partnership between the National Library of Medicine and the American Library Association. This exhibit consists of interviews with native people across the United States, who describe how the wellness of individuals and communities has been affected by epidemics, government policies and the inhibition of Native culture. It features contemporary stories of renaissance, recovery and self-determination. This traveling exhibition has visited libraries and universities around the country.

Kikehtahsuwiw: It Heals. is on display on the first floor of the College of Pharmacy. Curated by George Neptune, education director at the Abbe Museum in Bar Harbor, Maine, Kikehtahsuwiw: It Heals. is a story about several women in the Passamaquoddy Tribe. The women reside at both Motahkomikuk (Indian Township) and Sipayik (Pleasant Point) and share a common goal: healing their communities. As the carriers of life, they are also carriers of culture and responsible for carrying on their healing traditions. The exhibit focuses on healing from substance abuse.

The same exhibits will be on display in the UNE Art Gallery in the Ketchum Library from March 2 to April 12. Additional details on events accompanying the exhibits can be found on the UNE calendar.
