University of New England Westbrook College of Health Professions Dean Elizabeth Francis-Connolly, Ph.D., OTR, FAOTA recently attended the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) Assembly of School Faculty meeting in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She was joined by Nurse Anesthesia Program Director Maribeth Massie, Ph.D.(c), CRNA, and current AANA president and UNE faculty member Cheryl Nimmo, D.N.P., CRNA.

The UNE contingent attended the conference with faculty from the Maine State Nurses Association (MSNA). The event is the annual national meeting of nurse anesthesia educators. It is the only forum that brings all nurse anesthesia educational programs together in one place to discuss current educational requirements and how they will define the future of the profession. This year’s program included sessions on wellness for program administrators and students, the health of the nurse anesthesia profession, best practices and smart spending in simulation labs and state authorization regarding distance education and clinical placements.

Francis-Connolly attended a networking session with other deans of nurse anesthesia programs as well as a luncheon where Nimmo gave opening remarks.
