"What will I do in the Early College Creative Writing Program?"
You will meet with UNE Admissions and Financial Aid Representatives, who will give you valuable advice on the college application process and financial aid options. You will live in a dorm, enjoy UNE’s many recreational facilities (6-lane swimming pool, soccer fields, basketball courts, kayaks, and our very own sandy beach), and explore the scenic coast of Maine.
You will take exciting trips, meet new people and make lasting friendships!
David Stankiewicz, UNE Early College InstructorDavid Stankiewicz is a graduate of the Stonecoast MFA Program at the University of Southern Maine, with a concentration in Poetry. He also received a Masters degree in Theological Studies with honors from Andover newton Theological School. David teaches at Southern Maine Community College, where he regularly participates in National Poetry Month Faculty Readings. He has also taught at Andover College, and has worked with high school students as a Senior High Youth Director. His poetry has been published in literary journals including Off the Coast, The Aurorean, and Idiom.
Wesley McNair, Maine Poet LaureateWesley McNair, Poet Laureate for the state of Maine, is the recipient of fellowships from the Rockefeller, Fulbright, and Gugenheim Foundations, a National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship in literature, two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships for Creative Writers, and a United States Artists Fellowship. Other honors include the Robert Frost Prize; the Pushcart Prize, and the Sarah Josepha Hale Medal (also awarded to Robert Frost, Donald Hall, Maxine Kumin, Robert Lowell, May Sarton, et al.) for his "distinguished contribution to the world of letters." His poetry and essays have appeared in many magazines and journals. McNair is currently Professor Emeritus at the University of Maine at Farmington.
Joshua Bodwell, DirectorMaine Writers and Publishers Alliance
Joshua Bodwell's fiction and poetry have been published in magazines and quarterlies across the US and in Europe, including: The Threepenny Review, Northern New England Review, The Rambler, Portland Magazine, The Chiron Review, Nerve Cowboy, Pearl, Sipstream, First Class, in Paris with Frank, and in England with Ambit and Tears In The Fence. He is also a regular contributor to Poets & Writers Magazine. In the fall of 2001, Joshua gave a reading tour in England, whre he worked as writer-in-residence at Dulwich College in London and was a featured reader at the Wessex International Poetry Festival in Dorset. He is the founder of Clamp Down Press, a printer and publisher of fine, limited editions of poetry and fiction. In addition to his work as a poet, Joshua was an associate editor of Maine Home + Design magazine and an award-winning journalist with the York County Coast Star, one of Maine's largest weekly newspapers.

Dorms and UNE Life
Dorms are close to your classes and to the dining hall. Your two
weeks on campus will be a good opportunity for you to experience
dorm life and a roommate. Rooms include two desks and two beds with linens.
A dorm counselor/teaching assistant will be in residence with you.
Much of your weekday evenings will be spent with homework
and projects, but there will be plenty of opportunities to socialize
and explore the area. You will have access to UNE sports &leisure
facilities, including our six-lane pool, weight room, basketball
courts, and sandy beach and kayak launch! Other leisure
activities include movies, campfires and cookouts.

Tuition: $1170 (for the 2 week program)
Includes instruction and lab, field trips and extra-curricular activities.

(If accepted into the program, a deposit of $100.00 is required to reserve your place in class. The balance is due June 1, 2012.)
We are pleased to announce that a limited number of highly competitive merit scholarships are available for qualifying students, thanks to support from the UNE College of Arts & Sciences. Applicants should note on their application that they wish to be considered for a merit scholarship.
How Do I Apply to the Program?
*Students entering their junior or senior year in high school in Fall 2012 may apply to the Creative Writing Program, as well as those entering their freshman year of college in the fall. Fill out the UNE Early College application, and mail it by May 1, 2012, with the $25 non-refundable application fee to:
