Crystal Canney

Canney is a national award winning broadcast journalist who covered news for more than two decades. She interviewed national figures, worked on economic stories around outsourcing the shoe industry to Puerto Rico, and was recognized nationally by the Annie E. Casey Foundation for her work on poverty and children. She received a national Headliner Award for her report on poor housing conditions for the mentally ill and an Emmy nomination for her reporting on the Baxter School for the Deaf. During her tenure as a journalist in Maine, Mississippi and Massachusetts, she won multiple Associated Press and Maine Association of Broadcast Awards. She also was the first Maine reporter on the ground at 9/11 filing reports through CNN & CBS and covered Hurricane Katrina extensively.

Canney has served as Communications Director to two-term Maine Governor and former Congressman John Baldacci. She also served as Associate Commissioner of the Maine Department of Administrative and Financial Services, where she led consolidation initiatives and oversaw multi-million dollar budgets.

Crystal also held the position of communications director for the Angus King for Senate campaign — the first Senate victory by an Independent candidate in Maine history.

In 2009, Crystal established Canney Communications, a public relations firm specializing in campaigns and elections, industry organizations, and public private partnerships. In 2014, Crystal merged Canney Communications LLC with Knight Vision International, LLC to form The Knight Canney Group.
