David Cannan completed his undergraduate degree at a small private university (Dakota Wesleyan University) in Mitchell, South Dakota.  He went on to complete his graduate work at the University of Southern Maine (Gorham, Maine) while adding to his studies with additional courses and leadership activities (participant and presenter) at Wayne State University (Michigan) and Eastern Michigan University. After a brief stint as a Navy pilot in the early 70's, David began his teaching career at the high school level.  He taught Biology for 16 years at Lewiston High School (Maine) where he was also a coach and class advisor.  His next 18 years was as a high school administrator (principal) in schools ranging from 350 students to 2,500 students.  His last high school (Chippewa Valley High School - Michigan) was honored with the prestigious Michigan Blue Ribbon Exemplary School designation in 2004.  He was selected by the Michigan Secondary School Principals' Association as Michigan's High School Principal of the Year for the year 2005-2006.  He has presented at numerous workshops and conferences throughout Maine and Michigan.  He has been teaching for the University of New England as an adjunct professor since the fall of 2006.
