PRE-PHARMACY

Students interested in applying for admission to the professional pharmacy program at the University of New England (UNE) will need to successfully complete a minimum of 71 credit hours of specific undergraduate level pre-pharmacy courses. Additional admission requirements for the professional pharmacy program can be found on the College of Pharmacy's Admissions page.

The required pre-pharmacy courses

Students interested in applying for the professional Pharmacy (PharmD) program at UNE will need to complete the following courses:

English Composition – 6 semester hours (or 4 credit hours at UNE)
General Biology with Lab – 8 semester hours
Anatomy & Physiology with Lab – 8 semester hours
General Chemistry with Lab – 8 semester hours
Organic Chemistry with Lab – 8 semester hours (or 10 credit hours at UNE)
General Physics with Lab – 8 semester hours
Calculus – 4 semester hours
Statistics – 3 semester hours
Introductory Psychology – 3 semester hours
Public Speaking – 3 semester hours
Human Behavior/Social Sciences – 3 semester hours
General Education/Liberal Arts Electives – 9 semester hours

Note: Some of the courses listed above may be waived with prior credit that meets UNE approved criteria as outlined in the academic catalog (i.e. AP examination scores or transfer credits from regionally accredited institutions of higher education).  

Please also note that the pre-pharmacy course sequence is different from the traditional biochemistry undergraduate major course sequence. Students seeking to complete the bachelor of science degree in biochemistry should review the Biochemistry Program information located in the academic catalog at the time of admission. Like many other pharmacy colleges and schools, UNE will be offering an “early assurance” (also known as “early admission”) status for a select number of high school students. Students interested in this opportunity should review the criteria below.
