Become a Friend of MARC
Message from the Director
The Marine Animal Rehabilitation Center (MARC) on the Biddeford Campus at the University of New England is an important division of the Marine Science Education and Research Center. The rehabilitation facility is part of a network of centers authorized by the National Marine Fisheries Service to rescue and rehabilitate stranded marine mammals and sea turtles.
MARC not only rescues and rehabilitates animals, but also works to develop the most effective means of rehabilitation, and researches the causes of marine mammal mortality and the state of the marine environment. Please come visit us, take a tour of the Center, and say hello to some of our current patients! We are also always looking for volunteers to assist us in caring for our animals.
I encourage you to become a member of the Friends of MARC. Our membership program advances the important work we do. Your support helps underwrite the cost of food, basic care, medicine, and medical procedures needed to rehabilitate and release these marine animals back into the wild. Your membership also funds research conducted at the Center into marine mammal diseases and education about the importance of ocean health. Thank you and I look forward to welcoming you to the Center soon!
Sincerely,
Keith A. Matassa
Marine Mammal Rehabilitation Coordinator
