Jan has been an occupational therapist for over 30 years with a primary clinical focus in mental health.  She has worked in both acute and long-term care, and she also co-developed a mental health home care program.  Jan has worked in an academic setting for the past 28 years teaching coursework on mental health occupational therapy, culturally effective communication, therapeutic use of self and group work.

Costa-Pierce has a 40-year career in the marine and freshwater sciences. His overall research interest is in "Ocean Food Ecosystems: how seafood systems throughout the world  interact with marine ecosystems, fisheries, aquaculture, and people. He has worked throughout the world and in the USA at both state and private universities and at research organizations from Asia to Africa, and from Hawai'i to Maine.
