WCC Leadership Development
The Leadership Development Program at the University of New England’s Westbrook College Campus is an assortment of lectures, workshops, conferences, retreats, and other experiences designed to enhance leadership skills of UNE students. This program bridges the gap between classes and co-curricular life enabling students to learn leadership concepts and then participate in activities outside the classroom that reinforce or complement their academic experience.

Emerge, offered in the fall semester, is designed for first-year students. Through participating in this program, you will learn about the characteristics of an effective leader and develop the attitude and self-confidence to assume leadership positions. You will develop a personal leadership philosophy and learn to integrate that philosophy into your real-life leadership experiences. Session topics include: time and stress management, defining leadership, communication, and working with a team. |

Lead, offered in the spring semester, features sessions where you learn specific skills to help you advance as a leader. Using your personal leadership philosophy as a foundation, you will develop an understanding of the many traits that make leaders successful. You will learn to integrate the new skills into your real-life leadership experiences. Meeting and budget management, developing goals and recognizing members are just some of the topics that will be covered. |

Serve, for returning students, this program is designed to introduce you to servant leadership in which the focus is on service to the college and the community. This series of advanced topics helps you refine their leadership skills in specific areas. Workshops will be supplemented by community service opportunities. |
Resource LibraryStudent Activities has a library of resources available for students, faculty, and staff to browse within the office or check-out for a two-week period. These resources include; community service, games, ice breakers, leadership, reference, and team development and training.
Nor’easter NotesThese one-page publications provide a wealth of information on a variety of topics from brainstorming and program planning to the posting policy and copyright guidelines. If you’re looking for a quick reference or a handout for your club or organization, stop by and pick up some Nor’Easter Notes.
SGA Officer’s Retreat Each fall a half-day retreat is held for all student organization officers. This retreat covers the basics of holding an office including required forms and budget procedures. Officers have the opportunity to networking among student leaders and develop skills necessary to lead their organizations effectively.
Leadership Conference A campus-wide leadership conference is held each year in the spring semester. Open to all students, this offers students who attend the opportunity to spend some time developing group and individual leadership skills while getting to know a group of students, through a series of workshops, team-builders, and experimental activities.
Leadership PositionsA variety of positions are available for students who are interested. Qualifications and application processes vary for each position, please contact Student Activities for further information about opportunities. Positions include; SGA representative, peer mentor, work-study student, admission tour guide, tutor, orientation leader, student leader scholar, resident assistant, and student trustee.
