Westbrook College Campus Traditions
Candlelighting
Candlelighting is a long standing Westbrook College tradition that was rejuvenated in December 1996. Although the Candlelighting Celebration has had different formats over the years, what has remained constant is the celebration of community and spirit. This campus tradition has been continued through the support provided by the Student Alumni Association and the Student Government Association.Charter Day
Each year the Westbrook College Campus celebrates the anniversary date, March 3, 1831, when the governor first signed the Charter recognizing this college as an institution of education. A theme is selected by the Student Activities Council, and different events are sponsored throughout the week in which Charter Day falls.Clubs and Organizations Fair
Early in the fall semester all of the clubs and organizations get together to let the campus know what the WCC clubs and organizations have to offer. Typically a lunchtime event, a barbecue and live entertainment round out the festivities.Commuter Appreciation Day
This event is sponsored by the Commuter Council and is a way to recognize the commuter population and support these students. Student support offices are represented during lunch to show commuters what the campus has to offer in terms of services available for them. Family and Friends Weekend
A weekend of festivities is planned every year in the fall semester for friends and families of the student body at UNE. This is a great opportunity for students to show their friends and family where they live and introduce them to the friends they have made. Events are planned in cooperation with student clubs, Student Affairs departments, and academic departments. Schedule of Events.Holiday Dinner
Great food and great company! Each year prior to the Candlelighting Celebration, a Holiday Dinner is prepared for students, faculty and staff to come together outside of the classroom and work spaces to unwind and socialize. After the dinner, everyone walks over to enjoy the Candlelighting performance.
Jamfest
Jamfest is an annual University Campus event that features live music and activities for UNE students to enjoy. The Student Activities Council assists the Activities Programming Board with providing entertainment in an effort to unite the two campuses for this springtime celebration.Last Lecture Series
Each semester a faculty member is selected to give a lecture as if it were the final lecture he/she would give. The fall lecture takes place during Family and Friends Weekend and the Spring Lecture during Charter Day festivities. Pinning Ceremonies
As they prepare for graduation, both the dental hygiene and nursing programs sponsor a pinning event to recognize the hard work and dedication of the students.SAC Montreal Trip
Each year SAC sponsors an overnight trip to Montreal, Quebec to experience the culture and excitement of this amazing city.Spring Awards
During this annual spring event, students are recognized by faculty and staff for their academic and extracurricular accomplishments. Stress Busters Week
In an effort to help students unwind and destress before major exam periods, the We Care Committee provides a week of activities and suggests ways to manage stress to help students to succeed during times that can be tense.Thanksgiving Dinner
