Life in Southern Maine

As a student on UNE's Biddeford Campus, you get to live where others come to vacation.

A popular tourist destination for generations, the southern coast of Maine provides a wealth of outdoor recreational activities, as well as a thriving arts community, lots of convenient shopping, and some of the best restaurants in the region.

More than just providing stimulating places to visit, the area offers a friendly atmosphere that is welcoming to students and their families. And historic Boston is a mere one-hour and thirty-minute drive away.

For three seasons, you can enjoy the region's abundance of sprawling sand beaches, including rustic Hills Beach, just a short walk from campus, and festive Old Orchard Beach, a short drive away.

You also enjoy opportunities to visit Maine's famous seafood restaurants, which reside in quaint seaside towns along U.S. Route 1. At these time-tested Maine institutions, you can eat lobster, clam chowder and fried seafood fresh out of the ocean.

In the winter months, the region's many hiking and walking trails become places for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing, while western Maine's nearby peaks provide downhill skiers with fun weekend activities.
