ALEKS Summer Chemistry Prep

Summer Chemistry Prep is a self-paced course that provides students the opportunity to review the core math, algebra and measurement skills necessary to succeed in General Chemistry.

What is ALEKS?

ALEKS (Artificial LEarning in Knowledge Spaces) is a web-based, artificially intelligent assessment and learning system. ALEKS uses adaptive questioning to quickly and accurately determine exactly what you know and don’t know in the course, and then provides instruction on the topics you are most ready to learn. When you use ALEKS, you complete only the learning tasks that you need and not those somebody else needs. Students who show a high level of mastery in ALEKS will gain the foundation needed to be successful in the overall course. For more information about ALEKS, please visit the ALEKS website.

What material will be covered in this course?

This course will primarily focus on reviewing the math and measurement skills necessary to succeed in General Chemistry I. Topics include Mathematics, Algebraic Expressions and Equations, Scientific Notation, SI Units and Measurement of Matter. Click here for a full list of topics for the course. The summer prep course will only cover the topics listed under Math and Algebra, Measurement, and Matter.

Who should take this course?

This course is ideal for anyone who wants to get a head start on General Chemistry I. Chemistry is very math intensive, and if it’s been awhile since you’ve taken Algebra, this is a great way to brush up on your skills. Chemistry is a fast-paced course packed with information, so now is the time to review the math and measurement skills necessary to succeed.

How long is the course?

You can start the course at any time during the summer. It is a self-paced course so there is no time limit, although you should aim to complete the course by the beginning of the fall semester. Depending how much time you spend on ALEKS each day or week, it could take anywhere between a couple of weeks to a couple of months to complete.

How much does it cost?

The cost for ALEKS is $30.00 for 90 days of access.

How do I enroll?
