Getting Started
Scheduling an Appointment

1.   Call the BodyWISE Office Manager at 602-2307.
     
2.   A Cardio-Risk Factor Analysis* survey will be conducted by the Office Manager
     
3.   Schedule an appointment for a Fitness Evaluation**
     
4.   An Enrollment Packet will be mailed to you
     
5.   Review and Complete the enrollment packet
     
6.   Attend the Fitness Evaluation appointment
  a. Review of health history and fitness goals
  b. Develop personalized exercise program
  c. Equipment and/or class orientation
     
7.   Start exercise program!!
     
    * Physician referrals may be required for individuals with special needs or health risks
** Cancellations without a 24 hour notice will be assessed a $25.00 service fee.

Personal Training Services are offered at an additional $40.00 per hour for BodyWISE members.  Please see BodyWISE Office Manager for more information.

Guest Pass Fees
WEEKDAY:
Daily Guest Pass Fees
ALL guests must be with their host at ALL times.  Maximum of 5 guests per visit.
Guests of Undergraduates & COM students 8 free passes then $5.00 each guest
Guests of all others (Alumni, Faculty, Staff, Sodexho & Follet) $5.00 each guest
Guests of BodyWISE (Fee charged at all times- weekdays and weekends) $5.00 each guest

Guest fees payable to Student Managers should be in cash - please have correct amount, Student Managers may not be able to provide change.

WEEKENDS:  (Start FRIDAY at 4:00 p.m.) 
Guests of UNE Faculty, Staff, and Students are FREE!

Minors* (under 17 years):
Minors may use the gym, track and pool during the following times ONLY:
Friday- 4 p.m. to close
Saturday and Sunday- during posted building hours.
*Must be accompnaied by an adult and are not permitted in the Fitness Center.

Lock & Locker Rentals

Community members $25.00/academic year
UNE Community (Students, Faculty, Staff, Sodexho & Follet) $15.00/academic year

Policy Information
Payment Schedule
Cash, Checks and most major credit cards accepted.
Renewal dates are the SAME DATE each month as in member file.
Payment is expected at the time of your fitness assessment- the fee amount will be included in your member packet.

Come to the BodyWISE Center for Health & Wellness Desk. 

Summer Office Hours:
8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday
8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday

Freeze Policy
MONTHLY members may freeze their paid monthly membership for a MINIMUM of 2 weeks
A freeze may be activated:

  • As of the current date of request or
  • Notification of anticipated future date (This may be done in person or via telephone)

There are NO retroactive applications.
Member MUST relinquish BodyWISE member card during freeze period.  Freeze time MUST be used wihin ONE YEAR of initial freeze date.  (Exception: a signed medical note from physician.)

Insurance Coverage
BodyWISE is not third party reimbursable, however some insurance companies do cover BodyWISE services. For those members who do have a progressive insurance company, BodyWISE will supply supporting documentation to the member. The BW member is responsible for paying for BW fees and obtaining reimbursement from their insurance.

Campus Center Policies
Closing Policy
For inclement weather closings call (207) 602-2211 or check local news lists.  Holiday schedules will be posted.  Emergency closing may occur without notice.

Identification Cards
A photo ID will be issued at registration. ID's MUST be presented at campus center front desk check-in upon entering the building.  Persons with expired ID cards will not be admitted.

Parking
A decal will be issued at registration. The Campus Center parking lot is across the street from the Campus Center. Sometimes during the school year this parking lot is full. Other options for parking are the parking lots behind the Learning Assistance Center, behind the Gregory Hall and the Marcil Hall parking lot. Handicap parking is available on the circle in front of the Campus Center.

Reserving Racquetball Courts
UNE community may reserve a court 48 hours in advance. BodyWISE members may not reserve the courts but may use the courts on a space available basis.

Special Programs/Classes
Select programs or classes such as Yoga, and/or various Aerobics classes are seasonal programs and often student sponsored. BodyWISE members and UNE Students & Employees may attend on a space available basis.

The Facility
The Campus Center is a 56,000-square foot facility that offers a student union and a sports complex that includes a 25-yard/six-lane handicapped-accessible swimming pool, a fully equipped fitness center, a gymnasium with a balcony track, showers, sauna, and locker rooms.

The Campus Center is the home of athletics, student activities & recreation, club sports, BodyWISE and specialty programs including educational presentations.

The facility includes:

  • Lobby - with couches and reading materials
  • Bookstore
  • Multi-purpose rooms
  • The Hang Cafe
  • Gymnasium (12,100 sq. ft.)
  • Indoor track (~10 laps per mile)
  • Competition size pool (6 lanes)
  • Hydrospa (8-person)
  • Fitness Center (2,400 sq. ft.) - treadmills, elliptical machines, stair climber, lifecycles, recumbent bicycles, Schwinn Airdynes, rowers, free weights, VR2 Cybex weight machines, and Cardio-Theatre.
  • Racquetball court
  • Locker rooms - with sauna

Class Descriptions
AquaWISE

A water exercise program for individuals who enjoy the social aspect of group exercise. AquaWISE activities include a combination of cardiovascular conditioning, flexibility, muscular strength, balance and range of motion exercises.
Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 8:15-9:15 a.m. (low to moderate intensity) 
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 10:45-11:30 AM (low to moderate intensity)
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 5:05-5:50 p.m. (moderate intensity)

HeartWISE
Phase III and VI cardiac rehabilitation program for individuals with heart disease and may have successfully completed a phase II cardiac rehabilitation program. This supervised exercise class is also available to individuals who are focused on prevention of heart disease or other chronic conditions.
Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 7:00-8:00 a.m.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation/R.E.A.L. Fitness (Renewing Energy, Activity, and Life)
Phase III pulmonary rehabilitation program for individuals with COPD or other pulmonary diseases. Members of this class are exposed to a variety of health promotion options ranging from physical activity, breathing techniques, to stress reduction. The pulmonary rehabilitation program is supervised.  R.E.A.L FITNESS is the ideal program for individuals with limited function because of arthritis, fibro-myalgia or other debilitating diseases. R.E.A.L. Fitness classes combine chair activities with modified exercises to promote flexibility, muscular strength, balance and fun.

Annual Events
All events are open to BodyWISE members and their family and friends.

  1. Summer Cookout
    This event is scheduled on an evening in August (5-7 p.m.). BodyWISE provides the grilled chicken, burgers, hot dogs, lemonade, coffee/tea and place settings, the BodyWISE members provide the side dishes or desserts.  Usually held at the Kiosk overlooking the Saco River.
  2. Spring Pot Luck Dinner
    Scheduled on an evening in the spring (April or May), this event is usually held in the Campus center Multi-Purpose Rooms. BodyWISE provides the main entrée, punch, coffee/tea, and place settings, BodyWISE members provide the side dishes and desserts.
  3. Holiday Celebrations
    On a given morning in December, this event is usually held Campus Center Hang area.  BodyWISE provides beverages, members may bring other snack items and holiday foods.  Members may also bring Toys for Tots doantions during this time.
