Peer Health Educator Program
Peer Health Educators (PHEs) are a diverse group of UNE students trained to educate their peers about relevant wellness issues in an interactive, fun, and nonjudgmental format.  Peer Health Education is based on the premise that students learn and retain information better when taught by their student peers.

A comprehensive training program, provided by the Bacchus Network, prepares the PHEs to facilitate creative outreach programs, develop monthly awareness events, and encourage overall wellness, all of which help to foster a healthy campus culture. The Peer Health Educators are dedicated to providing programming and support with respect to race, gender, sexual orientation, culture, religion, and individual capabilities.

Description:
This is a volunteer position.  Candidates will submit an application and participate in an interview with the Health and Wellness Education department.  Once selected, Peer Health Educators will undergo a training period (5-10 hours), and commit to at least two semesters @ 3 hours /week as PHEs.  Peer Health Educators will conduct innovative active programming (dorm talks, on the spot teaching, skits, group discussions, role playing, etc.) and catchy passive programming (bulletin boards, newsletter, web design, brochures, etc.).  Programs will be targeted to residence hall staff and students, student groups, and the general student community.  Peer Health Educators will also be available for bookings on the request of various departments.

Training:
Peer Health Educators will complete the Bacchus and Gamma Peer Education Network’s Certified Peer Health Educator training program, “designed to empower students with the core training to educate, confront, listen to, and help their peers make healthy lifestyle choices”.  Upon completion students will become Certified Peer Educators.
