Hooding Ceremony

The UNE College of Osteopathic Medicine will hold its Hooding Ceremony at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2014, following the University-wide commencement ceremony, at the Portland City Hall’s Merrill Auditorium. The program will include the formal hooding of the newest class of Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine and Master of Science in Medical Education Leadership (MMEL) and the presentation of the Pioneer of Osteopathic Medicine Medal.

From points north:

Take Interstate 295 into Portland. Use exit 7 from 295 onto Franklin Street. Continue on Franklin Street until you intersect with Congress St. Take a right onto Congress St. City Hall is about 3 blocks on the right-hand side of the street.  Myrtle St. is located on the east-side of City Hall. The entrance to Merrill Auditorium is on Myrtle St.

From points south:

Take Interstate 95 into Maine. Use exit 44 from 95 onto Interstate 295. Use exit 7 from 295 onto Franklin Street. Continue on Franklin Street until you intersect with Congress St. Take a right onto Congress St. City Hall is on the right-hand side of the street.  Myrtle St. is located on the east-side of City Hall. The entrance to Merrill Auditorium is on Myrtle St.

From Northern New Hampshire and Western Maine:

Take Route 302 into Portland. Once in Portland, Route 302 turns into Forest Avenue. Continue on Forest Avenue until it ends at the intersection with Congress St. Take a left onto Congress St. and continue until you see City Hall on the left side of the street.  Myrtle St. is on the east-side of City Hall. Myrtle St. is located on the east-side of City Hall. The entrance to Merrill Auditorium is on Myrtle St.

Parking

Top of the Port Parking is a large, 500-car lot located between Congress Street and Cumberland Avenue. The gate into the lot is off Pearl Street which runs between Congress and Cumberland. An event parking fee will be charged for the day, to be paid upon entrance. Note: Portland Police monitor street-side parking meters on Saturdays until 6 p.m.

Doors Open

Doors to the auditorium will open for guests at 2 p.m. Graduates (both DO and MMEL) and designated hooders must arrive at 2 p.m. as well.

Photography

The University contracts Commencement Photos of Maine to capture professional images of each student during the key commencement events. During the University-wide commencement ceremony in the Cumberland County Civic Center, each student will be photographed as he or she crosses the stage and receives congratulations from the University president. During the UNE College of Osteopathic Medicine Hooding Ceremony at Merrill Auditorium, each graduate (DO and MMEL) will be photographed as he or she is officially hooded.
Students will be sent additional information directly from Commencement Photos of Maine. Additional information about photography at the University commencement ceremony will be provided nearer to the Commencement Ceremony. Family and friends who are interested in taking photos during either of the ceremonies will have the opportunity to do so from designated photo areas to the side of the stage in each venue.
