Jacques Downs Award Outstanding Graduating Senior

This is a College of Arts and Sciences award. Nominations for the Jacques Downs award are solicited each year from the University Campus's faculty and staff. The Awards Committee then reviews the nominations and selects one outstanding student. This honor is bestowed upon the most accomplished student in the Senior Class on the University Campus at the annual Awards Dessert Reception in April.

Considerations for this award are primarily the student's academic achievement, scholarly work, and service considerations during her/his UNE career. The Jacques Downs award recipient plays two important roles during the commencement proceedings. They open the event by reading the Prayer of St. Francis which honors the University's history as the former St. Francis College, and then once the degrees have been conferred, the recipient facilitates the Turning of the Tassels.
