Maroon Award: Outstanding Graduating Senior, Westbrook College Campus

Selected each year by the members of the graduating senior class, the Maroon Award is presented to the student whose energy and enthusiasm have made a significant contribution to the overall quality of campus life at the Westbrook College Campus. This award is presented at the annual Spring Awards Ceremony in April.

The Maroon Award has been modified over the years to accommodate institutional changes and traditions. It began as a Westbrook College Outstanding Senior Award. With this honor, the recipient was invited to address the graduating class during Commencement ceremonies, speaking on the value of leadership and the importance of contribution to society.

While the Maroon Award recipient no longer addresses the graduating class, he/she plays an important symbolic role in the University of New England’s Commencement ceremony, signifying the importance of Westbrook College’s history, spirit and tradition within the University. Today, the Westbrook College Campus Maroon Award recipient serves as the student marshal and proudly carries the Westbrook College maroon and white baton, leading the procession of graduates on to the floor at Commencement ceremonies.
