Frequently Asked Questions

I already know that I want to be a nurse. How can Career Services help me?
Even though you may have already made a decision about your future career, you will need to meet with a career advisor to create or update your resume, learn how to write effective cover and thank you letters and how to prepare for and have a successful interview.

What is the best way to find the "ideal" job?
There is no one "best" way. Successful job searches involve a combination of several strategies and approaches. An appointment with your career advisor is the best way to begin the process.

What is "networking" and why is it important in finding a job?
"Networking" is one of the most important and probably most under-utilized career search strategies. You should tell everyone you know that you are looking for a job. You never know where networking will lead you. People often find jobs through the least expected contacts. Remember, every person you tell has the potential to inform at least one other person that you are job-hunting!

I am a commuter student and find it hard to get to know other commuters. How can I meet people?
Join the Commuter Council or the Student Government Association, become a peer mentor, attend the brown bag lunches in the Proctor Center, and be sure to check Campus Pipeline frequently to keep informed about Campus events.
