National Omicron-Psi Honor Society
The University of New England chapter of the National Omicron-Psi Honor Society was established in 2000 on the Westbrook College Campus. Omicron-Psi honors the academic achievements of non-traditional undergraduate and graduate students through ceremonial recognition and the opportunity to apply for scholarships awarded annually by the National Honor Society's Scholarship Review Board.
There are two levels of membership: Omicron-Psi Silver and Omicron-Psi Gold. All students who are at least 22 years of age, are enrolled in the senior year of an associate degree program and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale are eligible for membership in Omicron-Psi Silver.
To be eligible for membership in Omicron-Psi Gold, students must be at least 24 years of age, have attained junior status or higher in a baccalaureate program or be enrolled full time in a graduate program and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. In addition, all candidates for membership should have been involved in at least three community and/or campus activities, demonstrate leadership, persistence, and future promise, and maintain the highest ethical standards.
Letters inviting qualified students to apply for membership in the Honor Society are mailed to students in early January. A committee reviews applications and notifies students of their acceptance in February. An Induction Ceremony is held in April for new members, their families and friends, and Omicron-Psi alumni.
