Peer Mentor Program
The Peer Mentor Program was started in the fall of 2000 on the Westbrook College Campus with 30 mentors and 42 mentees representing the undergraduate Nursing, Dental Hygiene and Organizational Leadership majors. This year, we are pleased to have 33 Mentors and 35 Mentees participate in the program, representing nearly a one-to-one Mentor to Mentee match.
The Program is designed to assist new students in the transition and adjustment to college life and the WCC "routine". Both Mentors and Mentees are strongly encouraged to participate in leadership development programs offered by the Student Activities Office on the WCC. Mentors can join the LEAD program in their spring semester, while Mentees can learn about time and stress menagement, and develop their own leadership philosophy through EMERGE in the fall semester. After the initial contact, the level and frequency of interaction is determined by mentors and mentees and depends on individual student's interest and needs. It is expected that many of the current mentees will become next year's mentors. What are the benefits of being a Peer Mentor?
