Safety and Security

The University of New England has launched three new transportation initiatives to try preserve the green spaces on our campuses and to practice one of the university's most cherished core values; stewardship of our environment.

Believed to be the most comprehensive program of its kind in the country, UNE is offering free bicycles to the first 125 deposited freshmen who live in the Residence Halls or a free Electronic gift card worth $225.00 for Zipcar usage for those Freshmen, Sophomore or Juniors who opt to leave their cars at home and join the ZipCar program; the program also provides expanded free downtown shuttle service on the Biddeford campus. UNE also has a bicycle club offering tours throughout the seacoast, bicycle rentals, repairs and more.

UNE’s alternative transportation program is a collaborative initiative developed by the UNE Office of Student Affairs and Office of Safety and Security. (News Release)

Biddeford Campus

The Biddeford Campus, located in Biddeford, Maine, has the Nor'Easter shuttle service as well as the zipcar and bike program.

Nor'easter Shuttle
Back by popular demand:  the Nor'easter Shuttle!  Offering a regular schedule seven days a week, the Nor'Easter shuttle will transport UNE faculty, staff or students to and from the University and designated stops in Biddeford including the Saco Island travel Center, Marblehead Boat landing, Biddeford Crossing Shopping area.  You just need to present a University ID card.  This has become a great way to commute to work and class and to get to the local shops and restaurants. The Nor'Easter Express Shuttle schedule and Biddeford Shuttlebus-Zoom schedules may both be found on the Shuttlebus-Zoom website.

The University is pleased to continue to partner with this program already successful in many cities and campuses.  The University has two all wheel drive ZipCars that can be signed out by the hour for University Community members to use.  Registration for this program is $35.
