Eco-Rep Program

As a new program at UNE, the Eco-Rep Program seeks to advance the awareness of campus environmental concerns and initiatives through Peer Education and Leadership.  The University of New England Eco-Rep Program is designed to raise awareness about ecological issues and encourage environmentally responsible behavior of campus residents.  Eco-Reps take part in and promote initiatives such as RecycleMania, Residence Hall Energy Competitions, Earth Month and other activities developed by the program members.  Eco-Reps attend an orientation session at the start of school and regular planning meetings on a weekly basis.  The orientation session familiarizes students with the current sustainability initiatives at UNE and develop skill-building in peer education and social marketing.  Weekly meetings keep members updated on activities, encourage resource sharing, brainstorming and trouble-shooting.

Environmental Council:

The purpose of the Environmental Council is to help the VPAA assess UNE's progress in 'greening' the campus. The EC is a focal point for increasing awareness and understanding of environmental issues both on campus and in the extended community. It is also charged with recommending initiatives and mechanisms that might support these and similar goals. Thus, the EC acts in both an advisory and an advocacy capacity. Members of the EC and others who have worked hard over the years to make the Environmental Council a reality on campus want to see the Council effectively integrated into the institution's decision-making process in order to promote wise resource use on campus and greater awareness of environmental challenges facing society.

Earth’s Eco:

Earth’s E.C.O.: (Environmentally Conscious Organization) is a group dedicated to making UNE an environmentally-sound University through educational endeavors, recycling programs, and guest speakers. It is comprised of students from various majors. Earth's E.C.O. is responsible for the campus recycling plan and the Earth Month speaker series in April, as well as UNE's Earth Day activities.

Environmental Pod:

The “Environmental Pod (E-Pod)” is one of six “pods” or clusters of student rooms that each house 9-12 students and a Resident Advisor.  Each pod is its own separate community within the building. With the guidance of a faculty member/staff advisor, an Area Coordinator, and a student Resident Advisor, students in each pod will have the opportunity to engage in their particular Thematic Core throughout the academic year.  The Sustainability Coordinator is the E-Pod advisor and helps guide the students through their selected projects.

Recycling Opportunities:

Student involvement is essential to the success of our recycling program.  Students can be involved in a number of ways with the recycling program.  Here are just a few of the ways:
