Raising Readers
Raising Readers is for all children in Maine, birth to age five, regardless of means. Children receive a beautiful new book each time they go for a well child checkup with their doctor or healthcare provider. Reading aloud to children, even from infancy, helps their small brains grow and develop and starts them on the path to literacy and good health. Raising Readers is NOT about teaching young children to read. It is about helping children to enjoy reading and language by exposing them to colorful, wonderful books. The website contains book titles/descriptions for each age and ideas for reading activities.
