Dental hygiene faculty member receives Fulbright Scholar award
David L. Baker, D.D.S., assistant professor of dental hygiene (part time) at the University of New England, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture at Maulana Azad Dental/Medical College in New Delhi, India during the 2005-2006 academic year.
Dr. Baker will be part of a public health initiative to establish a mandated School of Dental Hygiene at the Indian college. He will be there November through March.
He is one of approximately 850 U.S. faculty and professionals who will travel abroad to some 150 countries this academic year through the Fulbright Scholar Program. Established in 1946 under legislation introduced by the late Senator J. William Fulbright of Arkansas, the program's purpose is to build mutual understanding between the people of the U.S. and other countries.
Recipients of Fulbright Scholar awards are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement and because they have demonstrated extraordinary leadership potential in their field.
UNE's Dental Hygiene Program is located on the University's Westbrook College Campus in Portland and is considered one of the strongest dental hygiene programs in the nation.
