Education Scholar Michael Beaudoin Wins Award for Book on Distance Education

University of New England Professor of Education Michael Beaudoin, Ed.D., was recognized for a book he wrote about distance education at the annual conference of the University Continuing Education Association.

Michael BeaudoinSpecifically, Beaudoin received the Charles A. Wedemeyer Award, presented by the Distance Learning Community of Practice (UCEA) at the conference held in Boston, March 30 - April 2, 2005.

This international award honors a new book or monograph written and published in English that makes significant contributions to research in the field of distance education.

The Book
Beaudoin's book, Reflections on Research, Faculty and Leadership in Distance Education, offers both a retrospective and future perspective on distance education issues by including selected previously published work by the author, complemented by more recent writing, which addresses the same issues 5-10 years later, in light of recent developments in the field.

The book is Volume 8 in a ten-volume series on distance education. The authors are leading scholars and practitioners in Europe and North America. The book has been selected as a required text for the Master's in Distance Education Program of the University of Maryland University College.

Prof. Beaudoin
Beaudoin, dean of UNE's former College of Continuing Education and Professional Studies, teaches in the University's Master of Science in Education (MS.Ed.) Program, offered in a distance-learning format, and the Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Educational Leadership Program - both programs he established while dean. He is a prolific writer and scholar in the field of distance education.

Beaudoin is currently editing a new book whose subject is the future of higher education in the digital age. He will deliver the keynote address at the annual Distance Learning Administration Conference this summer in Georgia in which he will highlight some of his books' findings.
