Physician's Combat Medical Experience Is Focus of Harold Alfond Sports Medicine Lecture
 

Fred H. Brennan, Jr., D.O., will present the 2005 Harold Alfond Sports Medicine Lecture on the topic "Special Operations Soldier-Athlete: Unique Sports Medicine Challenges" at 5:00 p.m., Monday, Sept. 12, 2005 in the Wallace Trust Lecture Hall, Room 205 in the Alfond Center for Health Sciences, University of New England, 11 Hills Beach Road, Biddeford.

Dr. Brennan's lecture will include a slide presentation depicting some of the injuries and illnesses he encountered during his tour of duty in Iraq and his thoughts about his combat medicine experience.

The Harold Alfond Sports Medicine Lecture is sponsored by the UNE College of Osteopathic Medicine. The lecture is free and open to the public.

There will also be live audio/video feed to the CHP Lecture Hall, Parker Pavilion, at UNE's Westbrook College Campus in Portland.

Dr. Brennan
Dr. Brennan, FAOASM, FAAFP, is a 1992 graduate of UNECOM and a sports and family medicine specialist from Fairfax, Virginia.

He is the director of the Tri-Service Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship Program, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, Maryland, and assistant team physician at George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia, as well as at Paul VI High School in Fairfax.

He has served as a volunteer physician at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the World Special Olympics Games, Raleigh, North Carolina and the World Championship Ironman Triathlon in Kona, Hawaii, where he was a successful finisher in 2002.

He is an assistant professor at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, and has lectured and written widely on sports medicine and family medicine topics.
