Grant will fund civic reflection series for students and community members

The University of New England's Department of Sociology and Citizenship Program has been awarded a $3,000 grant by the Project on Civic Reflection to support a civic reflection series entitled "Community Conversations: Connecting College Students and Community Members in Citizens Service."

The series will facilitate the thoughtful reading and conversation about civic activity and thus enhance the quality of our common life. UNE students engaged in service to the community and the community members with and for whom they work will dine and hold a dialogue together in a series of four conversations throughout the coming year.

The Project on Civic Reflection was established in 1998 with the support of the Lilly Endowment and is located at Valparaiso University. It develops resources to help civic groups talk more comfortably about their values, think more deeply about their choices, and respond more imaginatively to the needs of those they serve.

For more information about the University of New England’s “Community Conversations” series contact Samuel A. McReynolds, Ph. D., 602-2327  or Jessica B. Meserve, 602-2513.
