Kate Adamson of Twin Oaks Commune Discusses Communal Living March 23rd
Ever wonder what it would be like to live in a commune?
Kate Adamson, a member of the Twin Oaks commune of Louisa, Virginia, will discuss the communal life on Wednesday, March 23rd, at noon, in the DeCary Cafeteria Function Rooms.
The program is free and open to the public.
Twin Oaks
Twin Oaks is a 37-year-old intentional community. There are over 100 people (and 40 cows) living together on 465 acres in rural Virginia.
Their hammock, tofu, and book indexing businesses provide most of their shared income, and they provide much of their own food through their dairy and gardens.
As a community, Twin Oaks has created their own form of governance, methods of communicating, and system of economics. They strive for environmental sustainability, egalitarianism, and non-violence, and they work consciously against classism, sexism and ageism. For more information on Twin Oaks see its website.
Sponsors
The lecture is sponsored by the UNE Women's Studies Program with the assistance of the College of Arts and Sciences Dean's Office and the Department of Environmental Studies.
