Cookies Shorts Film and Video Festival April 9th

"Cookies Shorts," the University of New England Media Services' film festival, is April 9th at the University of New England's Portland Campus at 716 Stevens Avenue.

With 50 films, it will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Parker Pavilion/CHP Classroom. All screenings are free and open to the public. Films from around the country and Canada run the gamut from documentary, animation, satire, claymation, horror, action and experimental.

Cookies Shorts logoCookies is dedicated to providing a venue for all filmmakers. The first Cookies festival, held in November, drew more than 30 films and attracted 100 audience members.

The festival's directors, Kari Wagner, videographer, and Holly Haywood, director of Media Services, think their mission is unique, important and maybe even necessary to creating art.

"If you make visual art you want it seen. It's that simple," said Haywood. Wagner said, "Most festivals rely on judges. We are a non-juried festival. There is no screen between the artist and the audience. It's a great way to get your work shown."
