Boston University scholar to speak on U.S. Foreign Policy in Middle East on Nov. 13th

“Why Didn’t We Know? Reconstructing U.S. Policy in the Middle East” is the subject of a lecture by Irene Gendzier, Ph.D., professor of political science at Boston University, at the University of New England at noon on Monday, Nov. 13, 2006 in the St. Francis Room of the Ketchum Library, University Campus in Biddeford.

In her seminar, Gendzier will place the U.S. policy in Iraq in some perspective.  Specifically, she will review the U.S. sale of weapons of mass destruction to Iraq prior to the first Gulf War, and situate current developments in the context of larger U.S. policy in the Middle East.

Her lecture is part of UNE’s Core Connections Lecture Series. This year the series’ speakers will explore the concept of “empire” from political, historical, citizenship, scientific and environmental perspectives.

Gendzier writes extensively about U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East and problems of development. Her recent scholarly works include: Notes From the Minefield: United States Intervention in Lebanon and the Middle East, 1945-1958, Development Against Democracy, and Frantz Fanon: A Critical Study.
