UNE College of Osteopathic Medicine launches Online Journal of Population Health

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine announces the launch of its inaugural issue of peer-reviewed works, the Online Journal of Population Health

The Journal highlights important population health issues that cover a broad spectrum from health promotion and disease prevention to international and environmental health, injury prevention, clinical practice and medical technology, and consumers’ use of health information on the Internet.

Online Journal of Population Health graphicThese areas provide a glimpse into the vast arena of population health—a field quickly claiming a priority position on health agendas at every level of practice.

The Advisory Committee on Population Health (Canada) defines population health as “the health of a population as measured by health status indicators and as influenced by social, economic and physical environments, personal health practices, individual capacity and coping skills, human biology, early childhood development, and health services.”

The Online Journal of Population Health shares original research and book reviews from UNE students and contributors in the field of osteopathic medicine and public health.

Articles
Articles for this inaugural issue were selected from submissions in over a dozen classes within UNE’s College of Osteopathic Medicine and Master of Public Health Program.  They include:

  • "Mercury Pollution – Maximizing Public Health Protection" by Lesley R. Evans
