Psychology/marine biology student Sarah Lyman to conduct brain research at University of South Carolina
BIDDEFORD - University of New England junior psychology and marine biology double major Sarah Lyman was chosen to conduct brain research at a Summer Research Institute at the University of South Carolina.
Lyman was one of 10 of the nation's top undergraduate psychology students to be selected for the Summer Research Institute. Students selected for the program will live on campus from May 28 through July 20, 2007, and will be paired with a faculty member who is conducting brain-related research. During her time at the Institute, Lyman will be conducting research on the neurological impacts of sickle-cell anemia.
Funded by the National Science Foundation, the Institute is considered one of the premiere undergraduate research experiences in experimental psychology. The SRI encourages students interested in basic behavior science to pursue careers in experimental psychology, a traditionally research-driven field that has been overshadowed by applied psychology, which offers careers in therapeutic counseling.
