UNE Marine Animal Rehabilitation Center releases 4 seal pups

BIDDEFORD - The University of New England’s Marine Animal Rehabilitation Center released four harbor seal pups at Granite Point in Biddeford, Maine on August 29, 2007 that were rehabilitated at the Center.

  • MARC-07-024-Pv - a female harbor seal pup, rescued by College of Atlantic/allied whale in Pembroke, Maine on May 6, 2007. Only two days old when rescued, she was suffering from malnourishment, was underweight and dehydrated. #24 had gained sufficient weight, was eating whole fish and competing well at the time of the release.
  • MARC-07-027-Pv - a male harbor seal pup, rescued by the Maine Department of Marine Resources from Lower Goose Island in Casco Bay, Maine. Less than one week old when rescued, he was malnourished and dehydrated. #27 had gained sufficient weight, was eating whole fish, competing well and had passed all of his medical physicals at the time of the release.
  • MARC-07-029-Pv - a female harbor seal pup, rescued by the Maine Department of Marine Resources in Owls Head, Maine on May 18, 2007. When rescued, she was suffering from malnourishment, dehydration and was slightly emaciated. #29 was eating fish on her own and was competing with her pen mates at the time of the release.
  • MARC-07-030-Pv - a male harbor seal pup, rescued by the Maine Department of Marine Resources at Scarborough Beach in Scarborough, Maine on May 19, 2007. At the time of rescue, he was suffering from dehydration, malnourishment and was slightly emaciated. #30 had passed his physical, was eating whole fish, and had gained sufficient weight at the time of his release.
