The landscape paintings are on display in Stella Maris on the University of New England’s Biddeford Campus. The exhibition runs February 5 to March 3, 2008. The exhibition is open daily, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00, and is free, and open to the public.

Both artists are drawn to nature and the landscape around them in Maine.

Deborah Randall, adjunct faculty member, states, "I am fortunate to live in a part of the country that is so picturesque, and I am constantly aware of the natural beauty of Maine when I step out my door every morning. The Maine coast and the tidal marshes nearby inspire many of the landscapes in this series. The small square landscapes were motivated by a trip to Tuscany, Italy that I took last spring with a group of artists."

For the past 20 years, Chuck Thompson, creative and fine arts professor, has painted exclusively Plein Air, painting from start to finish in one location.  His work has evolved from urban landscapes in Philadelphia to those responding to nature in the woods and the coast of his beloved Maine.

“I have found a spiritual connection with nature, light and atmosphere. I respond to nature in a direct way, by using color to represent light and light to represent form. I make little effort to copy nature, rather, I respond to it.” It is in this response that Thompson has found his core as an environmentalist, and advocate and staunch supporter of preservation.
