Undergraduate Arts & Sciences Symposium

BIDDEFORD - The University of New England 2008 Undergraduate Arts and Sciences Symposium will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2008, from 8 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Sutton Lounge and the Decary Upper Dining Hall and Function Rooms on the University Campus in Biddeford.
This symposium allows students and faculty members to present their research, classroom projects, art work, or other work done at UNE in either an oral presentation, poster presentation, or artistic display format.
The poster session will be held from 8-10 a.m. in the Decary Upper Dining Hall. Oral presentation sessions will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Sutton Lounge and the Decary Function Rooms.
Presentations
There will be more than 65 oral presentations ranging from "The Influence of Music on Performance in the Game Perfection" to "Evaluating the Saco Bay Estuary and its Potential Use as a Nursery Ground for In-shore Macrofaunal Species."
There will also be more than 50 poster sessions ranging from "Artwork Display – Mind, Body, and Spirit" to " Influence of Gender on Sports Participation and Motivation."
Honors Presentations
Oral presentations will include Honors presentations on "Development of a Pre-clinical Model of Chronic Pain Using Exercise as an Endpoint" by Hannah Mercer (Psychobiology), "Possible Mechanisms of Medication-Overuse Headache" by Ashlee Robbins (Physiology), "The Efficacy of Complementary and Alternative Medicine Approaches for the Treatment of Depression in an Integrative Healthcare Setting" by Misty Mallar (Psychology), and "Development of an in vitro Model for Bloom’s Syndrome" by Rebecca Wood (Chemistry).
There will also be a presentation from Dr. Pamela Morgan’s Salt Marsh Restoration class regarding the UNE Coastal Trail and Salt Marsh Restoration Project.
Judges will be present, and monetary awards will be given to the best projects.
