The University of New England, a clean, environmentally friendly, non-profit institution:

 

Enrollments at the University of New England in October 2007 totaled 3,792 degree and credit seeking students. This included 1.893 full-time undergraduates, 247 part-time undergraduates, 506 medical students, 766 full-time graduate students, and 380 part-time graduate students.

In addition there were 551 students enrolled in UNE's Bachelor of Science in Nursing completion program in Israel, 792 taking Individual Video Courses through the Education Department, and 197 enrolled in College of Osteopathic Medicine Distance Education Courses.

About 40 medical students each year volunteer hundreds of hours at the Biddeford Free Clinic.
     
  UNE is one of the largest 100 businesses in Maine, with an operating budget of more than $100 million a year and a quarter century of continuous growth.

Collectively, UNE’s direct sales impact on the Maine economy amounts to over $120 million.  These sales support over 1,000 Maine jobs and provide income of over $60 million to the Maine households who hold these jobs, with average annual salaries of $63,000.

UNE’s total sales impact on Maine’s economy amounts to nearly $235 million, supporting nearly 1,900 jobs that provide over $100 million in income to Maine households.
     
  The University of New England employs more than 645 faculty and staff at its Portland and Biddeford campuses, with payroll and benefits amounting to nearly $52 million a year.
     
  According to the "2005/2006 Book of Lists," published by Mainebiz magazine, the University of New England is the 9th largest college/university in Maine (based on undergrad enrollment only),  the 10th largest nonprofit organization in Maine, and the 12th largest employer in Maine  (the list excludes government employers).
     
  The University brings in more than half of its revenues from out of state and from the federal government. UNE’s 2,200 students from outside of the state contribute about $20 million annually in consumer spending, beyond tuition, board and fees.
     
  The University Campus entices more than 21,000 visitors to Biddeford each year.
     
  UNE students, faculty and staff contribute thousands of hours of community service each year through the volunteer work and service learning.
     
  The University contributes to the intellectual and cultural life of the community through dozens of events and programs each year open to the community.
UNE dental hygiene students provide low cost health services to more than 4,000 patients each year.
     
  U.S. News & World Report  has recognized UNE as one of the “Best Universities” in the North that offer “a full range of undergraduate and master’s programs." The College of Osteopathic Medicine is recognized for its educational excellence in primary care, geriatrics and osteopathic manipulative medicine.
     
  UNE educates more Maine students in the health professions than any other institution in the state.
     
  The University of New England includes Maine's only:

- Medical school - the University of New England College
   of Osteopathic Medicine, which emphasizes the education
   of primary care physicians.
- Master of science-physician assistant program.
- Master of science-nurse anesthesia program.
- Post-baccalaureate certificate program in gerontology
  and addictions counseling.
     
  UNE is one of 24 members of the Maine Marine Research Coalition (MMRC), formed to strengthen Maine's capacity to conduct cutting-edge marine research, increase collaboration and interaction among marine-based research institutions throughout the state, and increase the visibility of marine-related industries state wide.
     
  The University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine is one of six members of the Maine Biomedical Research Coalition, created to foster biomedical research in Maine as an important part of the current and future Maine economy.

The five institutions are conducting research on every major disease, including cancer, heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, Alzheimer's disease, cystic fibrosis, and glaucoma. The result will be better health and long-term economic benefits to the region.
     
  The University of New England's University Health Care has eight medical clinics in Southern Maine located in Portland, Saco and Biddeford. These clinics serve more than 30,000 patients a year.
     
  The Dental Hygiene Clinic, a learning laboratory for students in the Dental Hygiene Program at the Westbrook College Campus in Portland, provides low-cost oral health services to more than 4,000 Portland-area residents each year.
     
  UNE undergraduate students since 1999 have provided more than 20,000 hours of community/civic service to 50-plus community agencies, businesses and many schools in a multitude of school districts as part of the University's senior-year Core Curriculum Citizenship Seminar requirement.
     
  The Division on Aging also has received a major federal grant to establish a state-wide Maine Geriatric Education Center that will focus on medically underserved minorities.
     
  College of Health Professions on the Westbrook College Campus has created an innovative national model for health care education, training, research and practice called integrated, interdisciplinary health and healing (I2H2) education. This bold, revolutionary approach to health care education trains students from multiple health disciplines to work in collaborative teams to assure the best patient care possible.
     
  The $8 million Marine Science and Research Center is the only facility of its kind on any university campus, giving researchers a unique opportunity to create important new knowledge in marine science, the environment and human health. This state-of-the-art facility truly provides a window to the sea.
     
  The University receives research grants from a number of prestigious national sources including NASA, National Science Foundation, US Department of Health and Human Services, and the National Institutes of Health. UNE's capital campaign for two major building projects received $750,000 in a challenge grant from the Kresge Foundation, one of the most prestigious charitable foundations in the nation with some of the most rigorous standards in the nation.
     
  In 1995, UNE formed an alliance with Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences in West Boothbay Harbor, Maine, an internationally recognized research laboratory, to provide exciting research and educational opportunities for UNE students and faculty members.
     
  The Maine Women Writers Collection, Abplanalp Library, Westbrook College Campus of the University of New England, is a pre-eminent special collection of published and non-published literary, cultural and social history sources, by and about women authors, either native or residents of Maine. The Maine Women Writers Collection was dedicated as a national Literary Landmark on June 20, 1998, by the Friends of Libraries USA.
     
  The University of New England has the only accredited nursing program in the nation with an international branch campus though its association with Israel College. The Israel Branch Campus RN-BSN program is an international program developed to educate non-traditional students from Israel who are currently licensed and practicing registered nurses seeking baccalaureate preparation in nursing.
