Founded in 2002, the Friends of the University of New England consists of a number of individuals primarily from Biddeford, Saco and the surrounding area, who are supportive of the University of New England.
The purpose of this group is to strengthen the relationship between UNE and the local community, affording members the opportunity to support and engage in the life of the University. The primary impetus for creating this group came from the UNE Board of Trustees.
The Friends continue to help communicate the exciting and important contributions the University is making in our neighboring communities. They serve as "ambassadors" for UNE in their individual and business communities, and they act as liaisons to local news media, communicating the details and value of UNE programs, contributions and events.
Receptions for the Friends and "after-hours" events are planned to provide them with an inside look at new programs and events that the University is launching. The group is an important conduit of information and advice to University personnel on issues of local concern.
