UNE Web Page Content Policy
The University of New England's public website promotes the University and is a vehicle that assists users in finding more information about the University. Although the UNE Office of Communications administers the University's public website, a variety of users are responsible for the content and information available on the website. Information providers must abide by the Internet and Network Use Policy instituted by UNE Library and Information Services and the policies below.

UNE Standard Templates
University units that have permission to submit pages on the UNE public website at
www.une.edu must use the University's standard CMS templates. If there is a technical reason or other appropriate reason that a standard CMS template will not serve the unit's needs, the unit must work with the web designer/site manager to create pages that come as close to the template as possible in the web designer/site manager's opinion. Units must also follow the guidelines that are outlined in this UNE Website Guide.

Corporate Logos, Advertising, Sponsorships
- Because the University's website does not accept advertising and because multiple corporate logos tend to create graphic clutter, you should avoid using corporate logos on your webpages.
- In general, the names of corporations and other entities should just be spelled out, rather than using logos. Although the University is very grateful to sponsors of programs and contributors to our annual fund and other fundraising projects, in general we do not provide links to their corporate websites - the sponsorships are donations, not advertising contracts. We have hundreds of generous businesses that contribute to our capital campaigns and annual fund who do so through a sense of corporate citizenship and community involvement. To single out event sponsors for links to their businesses constitutes advertising and is unfair to the unconditional support of the other hundreds of businesses who support UNE.
- University websites should avoid intentionally or unintentionally promoting particular for-profit businesses.
- There are exceptions to this general policy on corporate logos and links:
| |
|
1. |
On some occasions, the use of a corporate logo or link to an agency, non-profit organization or business may lend prestige and provide important information related to a University program or announcement. For example, the use the U.S. News & World Report's annual "Best Colleges" logo is appropriate to announcing UNE's inclusion on that prestigious list. Or a reference on department webpage to a book by a faculty author might appropriately include a link to the publisher, which might lend prestige to the author or provide additional information and context for the author's book. |
| |
|
|
|
| |
|
2. |
Links to a for-profit business might be appropriate when the business has a direct relation to the mission of a University department. An example would be a link on a UNE Athletic Training Education Program page linking to a for-profit business that also serves as clinical training site for the program or a link to a travel agency that has a contract with the University to provide travel services for faculty and staff. |
