A New Designation for IPEC

In June 2012 the Interprofessional Education Collaborative received designation as a Center for Excellence of the University of New England. The Center designation is a tribute to the hard work and perseverance shown by the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) faculty, students, staff and administrators originating in the Westbrook College of Health Professions and expanding out to the Colleges of Pharmacy, Medicine, Dental Medicine, Arts and Sciences, and the School of Public Health. The Center has a three-year strategic plan that outlines IPE initiatives to be developed in the areas of curriculum, clinical education, scholarship and research.

History

UNE's Westbrook College of Health Professions has a rich history of leadership and innovation in interprofessional education.

Starting with the Integrated, Interdisciplinary Health and Healing Initiative in 1999, the faculty and staff of the College have demonstrated a consistent commitment to collaboration in research and scholarship, curriculum development, and clinical and community service.

These continuing efforts culminated in the establishment of the Interprofessional Education Collaborative in May of 2010.  At that time, representatives from all the Colleges of the University, including Health Professions, Pharmacy, Osteopathic Medicine, Arts and Sciences, and Public Health, gathered together, along with representatives from community partners, to identify a common purpose, and to develop a mission and strategic plan.
