Welcome to the InterProfessional
Education Collaborative (IPEC) website

The InterProfessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) was established at the University of New England in May of 2010 and has grown exponentially since its inception.  Familiarity with IPE competencies and practices has spread across Portland and Biddeford campuses through faculty, staff and student participation in shared learning activities, symposia, simulation, and scholarship. The interprofessional undergraduate Common Curriculum was launched in fall 2010. Along with traditional sciences and liberal arts, over 275 incoming students enroll in 9-credits of interprofessionally designed IPE course work.

The Mission of IPEC is to educate practitioners, scholars, and researchers to work together and with patients and clients for relationship-centered health care that is comprehensive, collaborative, caring, safe, and continuous throughout the life cycle.

IPEC continues to offer an array of educational activities that include extracurricular workshops and events, classroom and online shared learning, collaborative simulation development, shared scholarship and research, interprofessional case conferences, an interprofessional cultural immersion project and team-based clinical site experiences.

Graduate course development is also underway. In November 2011 IPEC received a Bingham Program Foundation grant to fund online modules that introduce all incoming graduate students and new faculty to IPE competencies and principles. New IPE graduate electives will be launched in fall 2012 and will complement those already in place.

We are also looking forward this spring to breaking ground on the IPE teaching health center that will be housed within the same walls as the College of Dental Medicine and Dental Hygiene clinic site.

As director I am excited by the enthusiasm for these endeavors and by the partnerships and friendships that have been formed along the way.

Please visit our expanding website and feel free to contact me if you want to learn more about IPEC or if you have ideas to share.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Shelley Cohen Konrad
Director
