Why UNE?

When I came to UNE, I loved the small campus feel and strong sense of community. Everyone is friendly and always willing to help a peer. I also love the smaller class sizes, they allow you to really bond with your professors and fellow classmates. The opportunity here at UNE is a big plus. In the Marine Science program, there are so many opportunities to grow as an individual and really discover what part of Marine Science interests you the most, since it is such a broad field. UNE has plentiful opportunities to work with professors in marine research, aquaculture, and husbandry (and so far, I’ve tried them all!). UNE is the place where I grew into myself and discovered the person I am now and who I want to become.

Favorite class

Big surprise, it’s Marine Biology! I loved the hands-on aspect of the lab, and how we focused on different phyla every week. It really allowed me to work with the wide variety of species in our oceans, as well as discover a few new favorite species of mine (right now, the Moon Snail is my favorite!), but it also introduced me and my classmates on how to sample, what fieldwork is like, as well as commonly used surveying techniques, which are essential for a future Marine Scientist!

Go-to local place to eat

My favorite local place to eat is Portland Pie. The pizza there is always phenomenal, especially “The County,” which is my absolute favorite. I’ve had many dinners there with my friends and have so many good memories there!

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite place to hang out is either the sitting area on the first floor of the commons, mostly because of the comfy chairs and fireplace, or the lobby on the main floor of the Girard Marine Science Center. I love doing work there and talking to my friends as they head to classes or labs!
