Thomas Volscho is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the City University of New York, Staten Island campus. His sociological research examines the topics of racism, class inequality, and politics. He published studies of the rise of the top 1 percent in the American Sociological Review and the Journal of Politics that explained how the rich expanded their wealth since the 1980s. Professor Volscho has published on sterilization and disparities in the use of the long-acting hormonal contraceptive Depo-Provera using a race-based conceptual focus in the Wicazo Sa Review (an American Indian Studies journal) and Critical Sociology. He teaches courses on class inequality, politics, statistics, and research methods.  Professor Volscho has two daughters (ages 10 and 5) that keep him pretty busy.
