This college is the university’s home to online, matriculated programs. During this ceremony, all candidates will be individually recognized on stage with a ceremonial placing of the regalia hood. Master’s and CAGS candidates will have their hoods/cords placed on their regalia by a faculty member or administrator in their discipline, and doctoral candidates will receive their hood from a faculty member who served on their dissertation committee.
The hooding of doctoral and master’s candidates prior to University Commencement is an honored tradition for the College of Graduate and Professional Studies and the University of New England. It symbolizes the culmination of graduate studies and the transition from student to colleague. Additionally, graduates are invited to wear honors cords (honor society, military, service, etc.). All faculty and graduates wear academic regalia. Caps are not worn to facilitate the ceremonial hood placement.
A reception, featuring light food, drinks, and live music, will follow the ceremony for Class of 2020 graduates and their guests. There will be opportunities for photographs and networking with peers.
Graduates are strictly limited to four (4) guests, as space is limited. Doors open at 4 p.m.
This ceremony will be lived streamed.
Detailed information will be sent to CGPS graduates’ UNE email in late February and March. CGPS graduates should contact their student support specialist for specific questions.
